Maiatica variety of olives

It is not purely coincidental if the name of Ferrandina is often linked with that of the Maiatica variety of olive. Maiatica olive trees are present in several regions of Southern Italy, but there are important and deep-rooted links between the plant and the Ferrandina area.

The hills safeguard the perfect balance between healthy, fertile land, high quality spring water, mild climate and pure air; the trees produce a large quantity of fruit which in turn give a large percentage of olive oil which is so rich in such highly prized qualities that more and more olive farms, even far beyond the boundaries of this region, are abandoning other types of olive tree in order to use the Maiatica variety instead.
